Some things before i go on with the review 1)2001: A Space Oddyssey is my favorite film of all time and i won't see that changing any time soon :P This is my point of reference. 2)If one whishes to watch Interstellar then a THEATER viewing is MANDATORY due to the scope of the film(preferably 70mm theater) cannot be emphasized enough.
Some time ago i read the leaked Jonathan Nolan script and instantly i liked it a i say love it who knows. So i anticipated this movie and prayed that Christopher would either keep or improve on the already leaked draft.Unfortunately (or fortunately for others. the final draft/screenplay and the final product was not as i have expected.
The good: 1)The acting was better than expected as was the casting. i think the only miscast was Casey i could notice some scenes where McConaughey seems to overact but i could be wrong. 2)The technical aspects of the film were photography was magnificent imho. audio production was fantastic although some parts were really loud at times (must have been a theater audio issue and not film issue... i am not sure)
The bad: 1)There was some inconsistency in the pacing of the film. i could be wrong of course but i post with a somewhat more critical view since i have already read the outline of the film before the theater formal viewing (leaked script draft) 2)I didn't like at all the Matt Damon subplot/portion (although his performance was believable and felt accurate according to his role. it felt rushed and a bit cliché although this is of course debatable.
Neutral Points: 1) As far as the robots go i didn't have a problem with their shape and size but i wouldn't complain if Nolan used anthropomorphical robots like Androids (Alien franchise. Although their shape in the film helps depicting their multiple and often superhuman abilities (fast running. shape shifting) 2)As i wrote earlier i would have preferred the screenplay to be following more closely the early script draft but this is a matter of preference and it has to be stated that most people have never even read the early draft thats why i post it as a neutral point. has to be noted though that the first half of the film is almost/mostly the same in both final and the old script draft.
I applause Nolan for completing the hard task of creating a film of this caliber especially knowing that the sci-fi genre is not the easiest one to entertain the masses and at the same time retaining artistic integrity. Although it has its flaws it is in my opinion a great film.I believe this is the closest film to 2001(Kubrick) i have ever seen so far (and that is a huge compliment) but at the same time it's very far away from the perfection and the excellence of Kubrick's magnum opus.

Interstellar miller's planet. Interstellar was an amazing experience. The story was sub-par at best, it was nothing great. A father leaves his home for the greater good, his daughter hates him for it- until she doesn't. The father faces many dangers and conflicts both internal and external on his journey, and his daughter still hates him- but is good at math. The father gets lost to time and ends up younger than his daughter(he did not get younger, she got older) and the daughter loathes him for not returning. As one can see the plot of the film carries no weight, no feeling, no magic. The magic, rather, resides in the scientific aspect of the movie. Most things that happen in the movie regarding gravity or space in general are all mathematical possibilities. Though there are false facts in the movie (for example: ice-clouds) there are many ideas shown in the movie that science claims true. The possibility of wormholes existing in space, the flow of time being altered by gravity, or even the claim that gravity is a force that can travel between dimensions so that an existence in the fifth dimension can communicate with one in the third dimension in all scientifically possible. We have the math to prove it. That is where this movie shines its brightest, it presents and explains (somewhat) these possible theories to people who may have never heard of them. This is what makes Interstellar such an amazing experience.
